Hyundai is preparing to expand its N performance division with a new range of models positioned between existing N Line trims and full N performance cars. The company announced the strategy during its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul. The move could give Hyundai a wider performance portfolio while making N technology more accessible to everyday buyers across international markets.

N Lite Models Will Bridge The Performance Gap

The new N Lite models will sit between Hyundai’s appearance-focused N Line variants and its more serious N performance cars. Hyundai has not revealed specific models or specifications yet. However, the company says these higher-volume variants will use powertrains derived from N models while offering a more affordable and daily-driver-friendly package.

N Line Models Already Have Strong Demand

Hyundai’s existing N Line range has significantly higher sales than its full N performance models. The company sold around 161,000 N Line vehicles globally in 2025, compared with approximately 20,000 N models. This large difference highlights the potential for an intermediate performance range. Hyundai could use N Lite models to attract buyers who want more performance without the cost of a full N vehicle.

More Affordable Performance Could Boost N Sales

N Lite models could make Hyundai’s performance technology available to a much larger customer base. Instead of focusing exclusively on maximum track performance, these vehicles could combine stronger powertrains with improved chassis tuning and everyday comfort. As a result, Hyundai could target buyers who find N models too extreme but want something more capable than a standard N Line vehicle.

Hyundai Could Follow A Proven Performance Formula

Other manufacturers already use a similar approach to create different levels of performance. BMW offers standard models alongside M Lite variants and full M cars, while Honda uses Sport, Si and Type R versions on the Civic. Hyundai’s N Lite strategy could follow the same stepped structure, giving customers more choices based on performance requirements, equipment and budget.

Flagship N Models Could Become More Extreme

The introduction of N Lite models could also allow Hyundai to push its flagship N cars further. With more affordable performance variants handling everyday customers, the full N models could adopt more aggressive suspension setups, stronger brakes and greater track capability. This could help Hyundai strengthen the distinction between N Line, N Lite and N models while giving the performance division a clearer hierarchy.

More Powertrains & Body Styles Could Join N

Hyundai’s planned expansion could bring N branding to a wider variety of vehicles. The company has suggested that its future product strategy will target more market niches through 2030. Therefore, N Lite and N models could eventually cover different body styles and powertrain technologies. This could include petrol, hybrid and electric performance vehicles as Hyundai continues developing its global portfolio.

Ioniq 6 N Expands Hyundai’s Electric Performance Range

Hyundai’s current N portfolio includes the Elantra N and Ioniq 5 N, while the Ioniq 6 N is also joining the performance family. Outside North America, the i20 N and i30 N have expanded the brand’s performance presence further. The growing mix of petrol and electric models gives Hyundai a foundation for developing different N Lite products in the coming years.

New Elantra & Tucson Could Lead The Expansion

Hyundai has several important new models planned over the next few years, including new generations of the Elantra and Tucson. These vehicles could provide opportunities for additional N Line and N Lite variants. However, Hyundai has not confirmed which models will receive the new performance treatment. More details are expected as the company’s product expansion progresses towards 2030.

Prices In The Middle East

Hyundai has not announced pricing for its upcoming N Lite models in Middle Eastern markets. If introduced, these variants could sit between conventional N Line models and full N performance cars in terms of pricing. UAE and Saudi Arabia could be important markets for the range, while final prices across Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman would depend on specifications, taxes and local dealer pricing.

Middle East Performance Car Market Could Benefit

The introduction of N Lite models could give Hyundai a stronger position in the Middle East’s performance-oriented market. Buyers could get access to more powerful powertrains without moving directly to a highly focused N model. Moreover, the region’s demand for sporty SUVs, sedans and electric vehicles could give Hyundai several opportunities to expand its performance range with different body styles and powertrain options.

Hyundai N Expansion Could Continue Through 2030

Hyundai’s N division is entering a broader phase of expansion as the company looks to increase its performance presence by 2030. The planned N Lite range could provide a middle ground between styling-focused N Line models and full N performance cars. With more models, powertrains and price points potentially joining the family, Hyundai could make N a significantly larger part of its global product strategy.
