BMW has unveiled the all-new 2027 X5, marking the fifth generation of its popular luxury SUV. The latest model adopts BMW’s Neue Klasse design language while introducing the first-ever fully electric iX5. In addition, buyers can choose from petrol, plug-in hybrid, diesel, hydrogen, and electric powertrains, depending on the market.
The new BMW X5 will begin arriving at dealerships later this year, while additional variants will launch during the first quarter of 2027. The Middle East is expected to remain an important market for the petrol-powered models.
Bold Neue Klasse Exterior Design
The fifth-generation X5 receives a completely redesigned exterior inspired by BMW’s latest Neue Klasse styling. Slim kidney grilles, distinctive X-shaped LED lighting, cleaner body lines, and a wider stance give the SUV a more modern appearance.
Moreover, BMW has extended the wheelbase by 2.4 INCHES, improving rear passenger space. Flush touch-sensitive door releases replace traditional handles, while soft-close doors now come as standard. Optional powered doors add even more convenience.
Premium Cabin With Next-Generation Technology
Inside, BMW has introduced one of its biggest interior upgrades yet. The traditional instrument cluster has disappeared and is replaced by the new Panoramic iDrive display that stretches across the base of the windshield.
Meanwhile, a 17.9-INCH central touchscreen handles infotainment duties, while buyers can also choose an optional 14.6-INCH passenger display. Ambient lighting, premium materials, and an AI-powered digital assistant further enhance the cabin experience.
First-Ever BMW iX5 Joins The Lineup
For the first time, BMW is offering the X5 as a fully electric SUV. The new iX5 60 xDrive features dual electric motors producing a combined 570 HP and 593 LB-FT of torque.
The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in approximately 4.4 seconds. Furthermore, BMW estimates a driving range of up to 700 KM on a full charge. Thanks to its 800-VOLT electrical architecture, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes using a compatible DC fast charger.
Petrol, Hybrid & Future Hydrogen Options
BMW continues to offer traditional combustion engines alongside electrified models. The X5 40 and X5 40 xDrive use an updated turbocharged 3.0-LITER inline-six engine producing 394 HP and 428 LB-FT.
Meanwhile, the X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid combines the same engine with an electric motor for a total output of 483 HP and 516 LB-FT. The hybrid also delivers up to 71 KM of electric-only driving. In addition, BMW has confirmed that diesel, hydrogen, and a future V-8-powered M variant will also join the lineup in selected markets.
Advanced Safety & Driving Features
The new X5 also benefits from BMW’s latest driver assistance technologies. Buyers can expect adaptive cruise control, lane centering, advanced parking assistance, and improved autonomous driving capabilities.
Additionally, the SUV features upgraded chassis tuning to deliver a balance between luxury comfort and sporty handling. Therefore, the X5 remains one of the most versatile premium SUVs in its segment.
Prices In The Middle East
BMW has not announced official Middle East pricing yet. However, based on global pricing and current regional positioning, the expected starting prices are:
- BMW X5 40 xDrive: From approximately AED 325,000
- BMW X5 50e xDrive: From approximately AED 360,000
- BMW iX5 60 xDrive: From approximately AED 375,000

Launch Timeline
The petrol-powered BMW X5 40 xDrive will begin reaching global dealerships in October 2026. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel-drive X5 40, X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid, and the all-electric iX5 60 xDrive will follow during the first quarter of 2027.
