Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new 2028 GLA, introducing a completely redesigned entry-level luxury SUV. The new generation follows the latest CLA by offering both electric and hybrid powertrains. The GLA EV arrives first, while hybrid variants will join the lineup later. Moreover, the SUV features a larger body, advanced digital technology and faster charging, making it more competitive in the premium compact SUV segment.
New Design & Larger Dimensions
The 2028 Mercedes-Benz GLA adopts a sharper exterior inspired by the latest CLA. It features new star-shaped LED daytime running lights and a larger illuminated grille with model-specific styling. Furthermore, the SUV rides on a longer wheelbase and has a body that is around 152 MM longer than its predecessor. It also gains wider tracks for improved stability while sitting slightly lower.
EV Powertrain & Fast Charging
The electric GLA launches in two variants. The GLA 250+ uses a single rear-mounted electric motor with rear-wheel drive, while the GLA 350 features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed official output figures. However, both models are expected to closely match the new CLA, producing up to 268 HP and 349 HP respectively.
Both EVs ride on Mercedes-Benz’s new MMA platform and use an 85 KWH battery pack with an 800-volt electrical architecture. As a result, DC fast charging reaches up to 320 KW. The GLA 250+ also offers an estimated driving range of around 563 KM.
Hybrid Variants Arrive Later
Mercedes-Benz will introduce hybrid versions after the EV launch. The lineup includes the front-wheel-drive GLA 220 and the all-wheel-drive GLA 250. Both models use a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Although Mercedes-Benz has not released performance figures, the hybrid models promise improved efficiency for buyers who prefer conventional refuelling.
Premium Cabin & Digital Technology
Inside, the new GLA features a fully digital dashboard with the latest MBUX infotainment system. An optional Superscreen combines a 10.3-inch driver display with a 14.0-inch central touchscreen and a 14.0-inch passenger display. Moreover, the system integrates Google Gemini and ChatGPT to provide a more intelligent voice assistant.
The SUV also offers a transparent-hood camera view, automated parking assistance and a standard panoramic glass roof. Buyers can also choose the Sky Control roof, which adjusts its transparency and features 172 illuminated star elements.
Performance & Driving Experience
Mercedes-Benz says the dual-motor GLA 350 accelerates from 0 to 97 KM/H in just 5.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel-drive GLA 250+ focuses on maximizing driving range. The longer wheelbase, wider stance and new platform should also improve ride comfort and overall handling.
Prices In The Middle East
Mercedes-Benz has not announced official pricing for the 2028 GLA. However, the electric GLA is expected to start from around AED 250,000 in the UAE, while higher-spec variants could exceed AED 300,000. Prices across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman may vary depending on local specifications, taxes and optional equipment.
Launch Timeline & Rivals
The 2028 Mercedes-Benz GLA EV will go on sale in Europe during 2026, with hybrid models arriving shortly after. Middle East deliveries are expected to begin during the second half of 2027, depending on market availability. Once launched, the new GLA will compete with the BMW iX1, Volvo EX40, Audi Q4 e-tron, Lexus UX and the upcoming next-generation Range Rover Evoque. Overall, the redesigned GLA strengthens Mercedes-Benz’s compact luxury SUV lineup by combining electrification, premium technology and everyday practicality.
