ID.Buzz Return Pushed To 2028 Model Year

Volkswagen has delayed the return of the ID.Buzz in the US market. The electric van will now return during the first half of 2027 as a 2028 model-year vehicle. Volkswagen had originally planned to bring it back for the 2027 model year after skipping 2026. The latest delay comes with several technology updates for the retro-inspired electric van.

New Technology For 2028

The updated ID.Buzz will receive revised software, vehicle-to-load functionality and digital key integration. Volkswagen is also expected to introduce previously announced changes, including a switch to a NACS-style charging port. These additions should improve charging compatibility and everyday usability when the electric van returns to dealerships.

New Tourer Variant For Camping

Volkswagen previously confirmed a new Tourer variant aimed at customers who enjoy camping and outdoor travel. The version will expand the ID.Buzz lineup with a configuration focused on leisure use. Volkswagen has not yet revealed complete specifications for the Tourer, including its final equipment or powertrain details.

Sales Start In 2027

The 2028 ID.Buzz is expected to reach US dealerships before July 2027. Volkswagen plans to reveal more information during the coming months. The company has not yet announced final pricing for the updated model, despite previously targeting an August 2026 sales start for the 2027 model-year version.

ID.Buzz Sales Remain Limited

The ID.Buzz recorded 6,140 sales during its first full year in the US market in 2025. Volkswagen then sold 2,481 units during the first half of 2026, despite not offering a 2026 model-year version. That figure was 16 units higher than the first half of 2025, indicating relatively stable demand during the period.

Limited Inventory Remains

Volkswagen appears to have maintained significant ID.Buzz inventory despite skipping the 2026 model year. However, available stock has since fallen considerably. Cars.com listed only 35 new ID.Buzz units at the time of the latest report, suggesting that most remaining vehicles had already found buyers.

Middle East Relevance

The ID.Buzz could also appeal to Middle Eastern markets where electric vans and lifestyle-focused vehicles are gaining attention. The model’s spacious cabin, retro styling and potential camping-focused Tourer variant could suit leisure-oriented customers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf markets. However, Volkswagen has not confirmed regional availability for the updated 2028 model.

Prices In The Middle East

Volkswagen has not announced Middle Eastern pricing for the 2028 ID.Buzz. UAE and Saudi Arabia prices are expected to vary according to battery specifications, equipment, local taxes and importer strategies. Pricing for the Tourer variant has also not been confirmed. More details should emerge closer to the model’s regional launch plans.
