The Refreshed 2027 Nissan Z Wears A Smaller & Sleeker Grille

2 min read

Nissan has revealed a refreshed version of the Z sports car at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, subtly sharpening the design of its retro-inspired coupe. While the update was shown for the Japanese market, it is expected to reach global markets, including the United States, by the end of 2026 as a 2027 model year vehicle.

Updated Front Design With A Cleaner Look

The most noticeable change on the 2027 Nissan Z is at the front. Nissan has replaced the large, boxy grille with a slimmer and more refined two-piece design. The new setup features a narrow upper opening with thin strakes and a larger lower grille, separated by a body-colored horizontal bar. The result is a cleaner and more modern appearance that better integrates with the car’s sharp headlights.

This revised grille closely resembles the design used on the 2024 Z Heritage Edition but appears more smoothly blended into the front fascia. The rear design remains largely unchanged, though the updated model shown in Japan does not feature the small lip spoiler seen on some previous variants.

New Wheels & Fresh Exterior Color

The refreshed Z rides on newly designed 19-INCH wheels finished in black with a chrome-accented outer edge. The updated wheel design adds a subtle premium touch while maintaining the car’s sporty character.

Nissan also appears to be introducing a new exterior color called Unryu Green. The deep green shade gives the Z a distinctive look and further emphasizes its classic sports car proportions.

Minor Interior Updates

Inside the cabin, changes are minimal. Nissan has added a new tan leather interior option, offering buyers another way to personalize the Z’s cockpit. Aside from this new color choice, the interior layout, materials, and overall design remain unchanged from the current model.

Mechanical Tweaks Expected

While Nissan has not yet released full technical specifications for the 2027 Z, reports from Japan suggest a few small mechanical updates. These include retuned suspension dampers and larger brakes borrowed from the GT-R, which could improve handling and stopping performance without altering the car’s core character.

Power is expected to remain unchanged, with the familiar twin-turbocharged 3.0-LITER V6 continuing to produce 400 HP in standard form.

NISMO Model Gains A Manual Transmission

One of the biggest announcements related to the Z came shortly before the Tokyo Auto Salon. Nissan confirmed that the high-performance Z NISMO will now be offered with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION, addressing one of the biggest requests from driving enthusiasts. This update significantly boosts the appeal of the NISMO variant for purists who prefer full driver engagement.

Expected Launch Timeline

Sales of the refreshed Nissan Z will begin in Japan during 2026. Based on Nissan’s previous announcements and product cadence, the updated model is expected to arrive in the United States and other markets by the end of 2026 as a 2027 model year vehicle. More market-specific details are expected to be revealed later this year.

Prices In The Middle East

Nissan has not announced pricing for the refreshed 2027 Z in Middle Eastern markets yet. Currently, the Nissan Z is priced from approximately AED 200,000 depending on trim and specifications. The updated model is expected to carry a similar price range, with slight increases possible due to added features and revisions.

A Subtle Yet Meaningful Refresh

Rather than reinventing the Z, Nissan has chosen to refine it. The sleeker grille, new wheels, fresh paint option, and expected chassis improvements make the 2027 Nissan Z a more polished version of an already well-received sports car, keeping the modern Z relevant while staying true to its heritage.
