Alpine A390: The All Electric Sport Fastback SUV

1 min read

Alpine has unveiled its first-ever electric SUV, the A390, marking a bold and electric step into the performance crossover segment. Aimed to rival models like the Porsche Macan Electric, this all-electric “sport fastback” combines Alpine’s racing heritage with everyday usability. Priced from approximately USD 70,000, the A390 will be available for orders starting in November. Let’s find out more about this new SUV from the brand.

Exterior Design

The A390’s design is a racey blend of form and function. Its sleek, coupe-like silhouette is accentuated by frameless doors and a distinctive “Cosmic Dust” lighting signature, featuring full-width LED light bars at the front and rear. Aerodynamic elements, including a shark fin and active rear diffuser that extends by 80mm, enhance high-speed stability and efficiency. Innovative wheel designs, 22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear, further emphasise its dynamic stance.

Interior

Inside, the A390 offers a futuristic cabin with a focus on the driver. A portrait-oriented touchscreen serves as the centrepiece, complemented by physical controls for AC functions. Race-inspired features include a brake regeneration dial and an “overtake lever” for temporary full power bursts. Alpine also offers a synthetic engine sound mimicking the A110’s petrol engine, enhancing the driving ‘experience’.

Powertrain: Tri-Motor Madness

The A390 is powered by a tri-motor setup: one front motor and two rear motors delivering up to 470 horsepower. This configuration provides rear-biased all-wheel drive with active torque vectoring, enhancing agility and cornering performance. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in just 3.9 seconds in the GTS variant. An 89 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 555 km and supports ultra-fast charging up to 190 kW.

Verdict – Brilliant Sports Car To EV?

Many might say Alpine has completely lost its mind. From making one of the most brilliantly nimble sports car, the A110 ,to now making an electric crossover? Well, it’s a simple strategy to attract more customers to their brand, but one that could be risky and costly. Nevertheless, this new A390 is a clever approach towards entering the performance E-SUV market.
