Eighth-Generation 3 Series Revealed

BMW has unveiled the eighth-generation 3 Series with a major design and technology overhaul. The new sedan adopts the brand’s Neue Klasse design language while retaining a petrol-powered platform. It will be offered with four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, with the range-topping M350 xDrive producing 437 HP.

New Design With Classic Influences

The 2027 3 Series features narrow kidney grilles, distinctive lighting elements, short overhangs and a cleaner side profile. Its shark-nose front end takes inspiration from historic BMW models, while the compact proportions recall the classic 2002. The design aims to combine BMW’s heritage with a more modern appearance.

Panoramic Vision Interior

The cabin combines traditional BMW design elements with the brand’s latest technology. The biggest change is BMW’s Panoramic Vision display, which projects information across the dashboard at the base of the windshield. A 17.9-inch central touchscreen is also angled towards the driver, continuing BMW’s driver-focused cockpit approach.

Updated Chassis Architecture

The petrol-powered 3 Series uses a heavily upgraded version of BMW’s CLAR II platform. The architecture also underpins models such as the X3 and M5. BMW has introduced a quicker steering ratio and wider front and rear tracks, which are designed to improve the sedan’s handling characteristics and overall driving response.

330 Gets 255 HP

The standard 330 and 330 xDrive use a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 255 HP. The rear-wheel-drive 330 will form the entry point to the US lineup, while the 330 xDrive adds all-wheel drive. BMW has positioned these versions below the performance-focused M350 xDrive.

M350 xDrive Produces 437 HP

The M350 xDrive replaces the outgoing M340i xDrive. It uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six from BMW’s B58 engine family, combined with a 48-volt hybrid system. The electric motor contributes up to 17 HP, taking total system output to 437 HP. BMW claims a 0-60 MPH time of 3.6 seconds.

Rear-Drive Drift Mode

Despite being exclusively offered with all-wheel drive, the M350 xDrive can temporarily disconnect the front axle. BMW calls the feature Drift Moment, allowing the driver to send power to the rear wheels for controlled oversteer. The model also receives adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential as standard.

M3 Will Follow Later

BMW has confirmed that the new 3 Series range will eventually include the next-generation M3. The performance model is expected to be offered with both internal-combustion and battery-electric powertrains. However, BMW has not yet revealed detailed specifications or a launch date for either version.

Middle East Relevance

The BMW 3 Series is an established model across Middle Eastern markets, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. The new generation’s combination of petrol power, hybrid assistance and advanced cabin technology could make it relevant to regional buyers. Specifications and engine availability are expected to vary between markets.

Prices In The Middle East

BMW has not announced Middle Eastern pricing for the 2027 3 Series. In the US, the rear-wheel-drive 330 starts at $51,250, while the M350 xDrive starts at $67,250. Regional prices will depend on local taxes, specifications, optional equipment and importer costs. Official UAE and Gulf pricing should be announced closer to launch.

Expected Launch Timeline

The 2027 BMW 3 Series will go on sale in the US during the first quarter of 2027. The new generation brings Neue Klasse-inspired styling, updated chassis technology and a 437 HP M350 xDrive. Middle Eastern launch dates and market-specific specifications have not yet been confirmed.
