BMW X4 M Could Return as High-Performance EV

1 min read

The BMW X4 may be staging a comeback, this time as a fully electric model. Production of the second-generation X4 ended last fall, but reports suggest a third-generation version is already in the pipeline. An M performance variant is also rumored to follow shortly after launch.

iX4 Production Timeline

According to posts on the Bimmerpost forum, the next-generation X4, internally coded NA7, will enter production in November at BMW’s Debrecen, Hungary plant. The electric model is expected to carry the iX4 name, aligning with BMW’s EV naming strategy.

M Variant To Follow In 2027

Reports indicate the X4 M will join production roughly one year after the standard iX4. It is expected to be built alongside the BMW X3 M. While BMW has not officially confirmed the model, insider claims suggest development is already underway.

Shared Platform With iX3

The iX4 will likely share key components with the BMW iX3, which recently debuted. The iX3 features a dual-motor setup producing 463 HP. The iX4 is expected to adopt a similar powertrain in its standard configuration.

High-Output M Performance

The upcoming BMW iX3 M60 is rumored to exceed 600 HP using a dual-motor configuration. However, full-fledged M versions of the iX3 and iX4 could reportedly feature a quad-motor system delivering more than 800 HP and massive torque figures in NM.

Shift Toward Electric M Models

BMW’s M division is actively transitioning toward electrified performance. The rumored quad-motor setup would allow advanced torque vectoring and enhanced handling precision. This approach signals a significant technological leap compared to traditional internal-combustion X4 M models.

Market Outlook

If launched globally, the iX4 M could compete with high-performance electric SUVs from German rivals. In the Middle East, where demand for performance SUVs remains strong, a fully electric M model producing 800+ HP could attract early adopters seeking cutting-edge luxury and speed.

Conclusion

While BMW has yet to confirm the iX4 officially, multiple reports suggest its arrival is imminent. If accurate, the X4 M’s return as a high-output EV would mark a bold new chapter for BMW’s coupe-SUV performance formula.
