The Buick Electra was once a boxy-looking sedan that graced the American roads from 1959 to 1990. Spotting an Electra on today’s roads is a very rare event to happen. However, Buick has revived the Electra nameplate in the Chinese market, with a very different approach.

Electra Sub-Brand

Buick revived the Electra name as a sub brand for the Chinese market. The Electra brand currently offers a pair of electric SUV’s, of which one was set to make it to the American market. However, the recent tariffs on Chinese EV’s have put these plans on the back. The Electra nameplate in the Chinese market has been performing strongly as of late, with the brand unveiling a new Electra GS concept, seemingly showcasing the design language for its future electric vehicles.
Electra GS Concept

Electra has previously showcased a sedan-style concept before, but this one takes a slightly different approach. The GS comes with a more sporty appearance and swoopy lines. Powertrain detail shave been kept under the cover, but the design sure does grab a lot of eyeballs. Buick mentions that the concept is inspired by the “Mythical Centaur”. The concept has design elements such as a short hood, a long and gradual curve to the roofline, thin headlights with LED accents with a similar design for the taillights, a glass roof, a small rear spoiler, and 23-inch alloy wheels. The interiors are done in a mix of brown and black leather, with a neatly designed dashboard. There is a 16.3-inch screen for the passenger’s luxury. Thankfully, there are buttons present for essential cabin functions. The steering wheel has this yoke design, with a digital instrument cluster behind it and even a heads-up display.
Market Launch Of The Electra GS Concept

There is a strong possibility of the Electra GS concept becoming a reality in the Chinese market. However, the same cannot be said about the American launch of this product. Due to the recent tariffs being imposed on Chinese-made EVs, as of now, the launch of the GS, or for that matter, any Electra vehicle, remains pretty uncertain. If launched, it sure will be a nice sight to admire those swoopy lines on the roads.
