Czinger has unveiled the 21C Spyder, an open-top version of its radical 21C hybrid hypercar. The new model combines a 750 HP twin-turbo V-8 with two electric motors to produce 1250 HP. Czinger claims the Spyder can reach 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds.
Czinger 21C Spyder Gets A Removable Roof
The 21C Spyder follows the 21C HDF and 21C VMax as the third major version of Czinger’s hypercar. It shares the HDF’s aerodynamic package but replaces the fixed roof with a removable panel. Extra A-pillar reinforcement adds only 22 pounds, bringing the dry weight to 3571 pounds.
The Spyder can generate 3307 pounds of downforce with the roof installed. Even with the roof removed, it produces 3267 pounds of downforce. Its carbon-fiber body also retains the unusual tandem seating layout, with the passenger sitting directly behind the driver.
1250 HP Hybrid Powertrain
The 21C Spyder uses a compact 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 that produces 750 HP. The engine weighs only 231 pounds and revs to 11,000 rpm. A seven-speed single-clutch Xtrac transmission sends its power to the rear wheels.
Two electric motors drive the front wheels and bring total output to 1250 HP and 691 LB-FT of torque. The hybrid system also provides all-wheel traction and allows the Spyder to run on electric power during startup.
Czinger claims a 0-to-60-mph time of 1.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 8.7 seconds. Top speed is expected to reach 205 mph.
3-D-Printed Technology Takes Center Stage
Czinger uses additive manufacturing throughout the 21C Spyder. The company works with Divergent Technologies to create complex components using 3-D-printed metal parts.
One of the highlights is the new BrakeNode system. It combines the brake caliper, mounting structure, and hydraulic lines into a single component. The design reduces unsprung mass by 1.5 pounds at each corner while increasing stiffness. The Spyder also features carbon-ceramic brakes, staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels, and a dual A-arm pushrod suspension with adjustable dampers. Drivers can choose from four suspension settings, ranging from Street to Track+.
Czinger 21C Spyder Price & Production
Czinger will build only 30 examples of the 21C Spyder. Each car will receive extensive customization, including unique exterior colors, carbon-fiber finishes, interior materials, chassis components, pedals, and grilles. Pricing starts at $2.75 million, making the 21C Spyder one of the most exclusive open-top hypercars on the market. With 1250 HP, a 1.9-second 0-to-60-mph claim, and extensive 3-D-printed technology, it is also one of the most technically ambitious.
