Dark Matter – 800 HP Koenigsegg Motor

1 min read

Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg is at it again, adding to the automotive technology lexicon with its new Dark Matter “Raxial Flux” electric motor. As scary as the name sounds, the Dark Matter is truly out of this world in terms of innovations and technology.

boasting full carbon-fibre construction and a novel permanent six-phase winding. This motor is destined for use in the Koenigsegg Gemera two-door four-seat hybrid hypercar. Let’s learn more about this demonic EV motor.

Dark Matter Koenigsegg – Pizza Sized Madness

The motor, measuring roughly 15 inches in diameter and 5.3 inches thick, ends up looking like either a fat axial or a tall radial-flux motor that blends axial-flux torque density with radial-flux power density and packages nicely between an engine and transmission.

This pizza-sized motor makes an unbelievable 800 horsepower and 1250 NM of torque and can fit almost anywhere you want it to. Koenigsegg is going to be the first to produce a carbon-fibre rotor and stator structure in an electric motor. This motor will not drive the vehicle, but will be an assistant helper motor for the Koenigsegg Gemera.

Koenigsegg Gemera

The Koenigsegg Gemera will be a limited-production, four-seat, plug-in hybrid grand tourer from Koenigsegg. It will reportedly feature a tiny 2.0-litre petrol engine with just 3 cylinders. But the maximum power output? 1700HP.

But 1700 HP from a 2.0 litre is, of course, impossible. The Hybrid motors help the Gemera generate this output figure. Along with that, a massive 2300 HP variant will also be available with the same dark matter motor options but here connected to a 5.0-litre V8 engine.

Koenigsegg Gemera – Performance

The Gemera is believed to become the fastest 4-door GT in the world as soon as it’s launched. The 0-100 KM/H is around 1.9 seconds, and the car’s top speed is just under 300 KM/H, in EV mode. In normal mode with both engine and the motor working, the Gemera will be able to rocket to a top speed of 400KM/H.

This means the Gemera will be the fastest 4-door car in the world, along with boasting the craftsmanship of Koenigsegg and the performance of a true hypercar

Koenigsegg Gemera – Pricing

The Gemera is expected to cost approximately $1.7 million. In Dubai, this translates to around AED 6,670,000. With only 300 units planned for production, the Gemera is one of the most expensive cars in the world.

Koenigsegg Gemera – Verdict

The innovation of the Dark Matter motor, one of the most powerful 3-cylinder engines and the quality and craftsmanship of Koenigsegg, the Gemera will become one of the most sought-after hypercars in the world and truly appeal as it will be a daily drivable and track-capable as well.
