Ferrari’s chief product development boss, Gianmaria Fulgenzi, recently mentioned that the return of a manual transmission is coming at a time when performance cars are at the peak of performance and engineering, both in terms of technology and what a human body can withstand. It looks like the brand is planning to reintroduce a stick shifter, but maybe in a limited production run model.
Ferrari’s Last Manual Sports Car
The last time Ferrari offered a manual transmission was close to 13 years ago, and that was with the Ferrari California. However, sales were very low for manuals back then; to take things into perspective, say for every 10,000 orders, only 3 were manual transmission vehicles. However, things have changed drastically now, and customer preferences have evolved. Rival brands like Porsche have brought back manuals due to customer demand. It is about time Ferrari listens to its customers and delivers based on their requirements.

Lewis Hamilton And The F44
Newly appointed Ferrari Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has shown keen interest in reviving the legendary F40, with a different name, something like the F44, which is in accordance with Hamilton’s racing number. We could see a manual transmission in something like this model.

Future Ferrari Manual Sports Cars
In the not-so-distant future, we can definitely hope to see a manual transmission Ferrari sports car, but do keep in mind this will not be a series production supercar, as mentioned by the brand. We could see a manual Ferrari in the Icona lineup of cars. One thing to note is that the most recent Icona model that debuted was the Daytona SP3 in 2023, and hence, one can safely assume that the next model is not too far away from debut, and the possibility of it being a manual is also very likely.
