Hennessey Performance has revealed the all-new Blackbird, a limited-production supercar that prioritises driver engagement over outright power. Inspired by the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird aircraft, the new model combines a naturally aspirated V8 engine, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed gated manual transmission. Only 71 examples will be produced, making it one of Hennessey’s most exclusive supercars.
Futuristic Design With Aerodynamic Innovation
The Hennessey Blackbird features a sleek, futuristic body with extensive carbon-fibre construction. Large air intakes, sculpted side pods and a streamlined profile improve airflow while reducing weight.
Instead of a fixed rear wing, the supercar uses active vertical stabilisers that automatically deploy above 114 KM/H. Additionally, the diamond-shaped quad exhaust takes inspiration from the Bell X-1 aircraft, while the side pods reflect Formula 1 design influences.
850 HP Naturally Aspirated V8 Powertrain
Power comes from a newly developed 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine created in collaboration with Ilmor Engineering. The high-revving engine produces between 800 HP and 850 HP while revving beyond 9,000 RPM.
Power is delivered exclusively to the rear wheels through a six-speed gated manual transmission. Hennessey claims the Blackbird accelerates from 0 to 97 KM/H in just 2.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 354 KM/H.
Lightweight Construction Maximises Performance
Hennessey has built the Blackbird around a full carbon-fibre monocoque with carbon-fibre body panels. As a result, the company targets a curb weight below 1,360 KG.
Furthermore, the supercar features adaptive suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres to deliver responsive handling and improved driver confidence on both road and track.
Driver-Focused Cabin Without Screens
The Blackbird’s interior embraces a traditional approach by eliminating dashboard touchscreens. Instead, drivers get analogue gauges positioned behind a clean steering wheel without integrated buttons.
The exposed gear linkage highlights the six-speed manual transmission, while a physical ignition key replaces the modern push-button starter. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain available through a dedicated smartphone holder instead of an integrated display.
Practical Features Improve Everyday Usability
Despite its performance focus, the Blackbird offers greater comfort than previous Hennessey models. The cabin provides additional space for occupants and includes four cup holders for long-distance driving.
Moreover, the luggage compartment can accommodate two full-size carry-on bags, allowing owners to undertake extended road trips with greater convenience.
Prices In The Middle East
Hennessey has not announced official pricing for Middle Eastern markets. However, based on the global starting price of USD 2.5 million, the Blackbird is expected to cost approximately AED 9.2 million before local taxes and registration charges in the UAE. Prices may vary across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman depending on local import duties, specifications and optional equipment.
Launch Timeline & Rivals
Hennessey plans to begin Blackbird production during 2029 and 2030 after the Venom F5 completes its production run in 2028. Only 71 units will be built, with a significant portion already reserved. Once deliveries begin, the Blackbird will compete with the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50, Pagani Utopia, Koenigsegg CC850 and Aston Martin Valhalla. Overall, the Hennessey Blackbird combines classic driving involvement with modern engineering, creating a supercar that places the driver at the centre of every journey.
