Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition – End Of A Legend

1 min read

The legendary JDM fan boy sports car, Honda Civic Type R FL5 generation, has now come to an end. The Honda Civic Type R will no longer be sold in Europe after this year. Honda’s hottest hatch is leaving the market due to emission rules, but it’s bidding farewell with the limited-volume Ultimate Edition. Let’s find out more about the farewell of a legendary sports car.

What’s New?

The Ultimate Edition builds upon the standard Civic Type R’s performance and design, adding exclusive aesthetic and functional enhancements.

Exterior Enhancements

  • The exterior enhancements in the ultimate edition include:
    • Championship White paint with red accents, including a go-faster pinstripe on the bonnet and a staggered motif along the sides.
    • Black-painted roof and carbon fiber details on the wing spoiler and doorstep garnish.
    • Type R logo projected from the side door mirrors.
    • Additional interior lighting for a more immersive experience

The interior feature additions include a red accented steering wheel and bucket-style comfort seats, and a serial number plaque for added exclusivity. Each of the 40 Ultimate cars will also come with a gift box with an individually numbered emblem.

Engine And Performance

  • Retains the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivering 315HP (242 kW) and a top speed of 275 KM/H.
  • Features a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential for enhanced driving dynamics.
  • Equipped with Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for improved stopping power and grip
  • The FL5 Honda Civic Type R’s Nürburgring lap time is 7 minutes and 44.881 seconds. This lap time makes it the fastest front-wheel-drive car at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Verdict

As the final chapter of the FL5-generation Civic Type R, the Ultimate Edition is a fitting send-off, equal parts homage and high-performance statement. With just 40 units made, it’s not just a hot hatch, it’s a collector’s car. But the FL5 in itself is a proper sports car as it’s one of the last of its kind. Now we shall wait to see what the next generation of the Civic Type R has up its sleeves.
