Infiniti has reportedly delayed the launch of the high-performance QX80 Red Sport as the company works to deliver a more capable flagship SUV. Originally expected to arrive this year, the performance-focused model will now likely debut in 2028 alongside the QX80’s mid-cycle update. Moreover, Infiniti plans to introduce more power, sharper handling and aggressive styling to better compete in the luxury performance SUV segment.
Launch Delayed For More Development
Infiniti has postponed the QX80 Red Sport to allow additional engineering and testing. The company believes that increasing engine output alone would not meet customer expectations.
Instead, engineers are refining the SUV’s suspension, braking system and overall driving dynamics. As a result, the final product should offer a more complete performance experience.
Around 600 HP Twin-Turbo V6 Power

The current QX80 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 450 HP. Infiniti plans to increase output by more than 20 percent for the Red Sport.
The upgraded powertrain is expected to deliver around 600 HP. Consequently, Infiniti aims to reduce the SUV’s 0 to 100 KM/H acceleration time to under five seconds.
Performance Chassis & Braking Upgrades
Infiniti will pair the more powerful engine with substantial mechanical improvements. The QX80 Red Sport will receive a retuned suspension for sharper handling and improved body control.
Additionally, the SUV will feature larger performance brakes to enhance stopping power. These upgrades will help match the increased engine performance during spirited driving.
Aggressive Exterior With Sporty Details
The QX80 Red Sport will feature a more aggressive appearance than the standard model. Infiniti plans to introduce a redesigned grille, a revised front bumper and wider fender flares.
Furthermore, the SUV will gain functional aerodynamic components, 24-inch alloy wheels and a new active exhaust system. Together, these upgrades will create a more distinctive performance-focused design.
Premium Interior With Exclusive Features
Inside, Infiniti will introduce unique cabin upgrades to separate the Red Sport from the standard QX80.
The luxury SUV is expected to receive exclusive interior materials, sportier trim details and additional premium features. These enhancements will complement the vehicle’s high-performance character.
Track Spec Future Remains Uncertain
The delay has also raised questions about the future of the QX80 Track Spec concept. Infiniti originally planned an even more powerful version with close to 700 HP.
However, the company may now focus entirely on the Red Sport instead. Therefore, the Track Spec could remain a concept rather than entering production.
Prices In India
Infiniti does not currently sell vehicles in India. If the QX80 Red Sport enters the Indian market in the future through private imports, it could carry an estimated starting price of around Rs 2.5 crore (ex-showroom).
Prices In The Middle East
Infiniti has not confirmed official pricing for the QX80 Red Sport in Middle Eastern markets. However, the high-performance luxury SUV is expected to be priced between AED 490,000 and AED 560,000 in the UAE. Prices may vary across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman depending on local taxes, specifications and optional equipment.
Launch Timeline & Rivals

Infiniti now expects to introduce the QX80 Red Sport in 2028 as part of the SUV’s mid-cycle refresh. The company continues refining the model to deliver stronger performance and a more engaging driving experience. Once launched, it will compete with performance luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, BMW Alpina XB7, Range Rover Sport SV and Cadillac Escalade-V. Overall, the QX80 Red Sport aims to strengthen Infiniti’s presence in the premium performance SUV segment, particularly in luxury-focused Middle Eastern markets.
