Jaguar Announces Official Name For New EV Flagship
Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming electric four-door GT, and the production model will be called the Type 01. The new EV represents the beginning of Jaguar’s next-generation electric era and follows the controversial Type 00 concept first revealed in 2024.
The Type 01 is expected to become Jaguar’s new flagship electric performance car. The company says the model combines luxury, advanced EV technology, and extremely high performance as part of Jaguar’s shift toward a more premium market position.
Type Naming Returns With Historic Inspiration
Jaguar says the new naming strategy pays tribute to some of the brand’s most iconic vehicles. The “Type” badge has deep roots in Jaguar history, previously appearing on legendary models such as the C-Type and the E-Type.
According to Jaguar, the “0” in Type 01 represents the fully electric powertrain and zero tailpipe emissions. The “1” signifies the first production model of Jaguar’s completely reimagined electric lineup. The company appears determined to create a stronger connection between its heritage and future EV direction.
Teaser Suggests Concept Design Will Reach Production
Alongside the name announcement, Jaguar released a teaser image of the upcoming Type 01. The preview highlights a slim horizontal design element positioned where the hood meets the windshield.
Jaguar calls this feature the “strikethrough motif,” a styling detail first seen on the Type 00 concept. The teaser suggests that much of the bold and futuristic concept design may survive into the production model.
The signature horizontal line theme also appears within Jaguar’s redesigned “Leaper” logo, which was first introduced alongside the Type 00 concept. The aggressive styling continues Jaguar’s dramatic design transformation.
Tri-Motor Setup Produces Over 986 HP
Jaguar has also revealed early powertrain details for the Type 01. The electric four-door GT will use a tri-motor setup producing more than 986 HP and 958 LB-FT of torque.
While Jaguar has not yet released acceleration or range figures, the output places the Type 01 among the most powerful luxury EVs currently under development. The performance figures suggest the new model will compete against high-end electric sedans from Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lucid.
The powerful drivetrain is expected to deliver instant acceleration and advanced all-wheel-drive capability, helping Jaguar position the Type 01 as a true electric performance flagship.
Jaguar Targets Luxury EV Market
Reports suggest the Jaguar Type 01 could start at approximately $130,000 when it officially reaches production. That pricing would position it firmly within the premium luxury EV segment.
Jaguar’s new strategy focuses on moving further upscale while reducing total production volume. Instead of competing directly with high-volume luxury brands, Jaguar appears focused on exclusivity, performance, and unique design.
The Type 01 will likely become one of the most important vehicles in Jaguar’s modern history as the company attempts to reinvent itself for the electric era.
Full Reveal Expected Later This Year
Jaguar confirmed that camouflaged Type 01 prototypes will appear publicly in Monaco ahead of the upcoming Formula E race weekend. The company plans to fully reveal the production model later this year.
The final production car is expected to retain much of the dramatic styling seen on the original Type 00 concept while introducing Jaguar’s newest electric technology and performance systems. More technical details, including range, charging capability, and launch timing, are expected during the official debut.
