Jetour T2: Defender Copy Or Killer?

1 min read

The Jetour T2 mid-size SUV enters the Middle East automotive scene with a measured approach: assertive styling, competitive specifications, and a focus on value without noise. As Chinese automakers continue expanding across Gulf markets, Jetour positions the T2 not as a disruptor but as a solid contender in a growing segment. With a sharp profile, hybrid and petrol variants, and a tech-forward cabin, the T2 is promising.

Design & Dimensions

The Jetour T2 mid-size SUV marks its arrival with angular lines and a stance that signals capability. Measuring 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,880 mm tall, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, the T2 maintains proportional balance and practicality. Its squared-off build draws on familiar utility vehicle cues. Roof rails and tow hooks contrast in bright trim, adding visual breaks to the neutral exterior. Ground clearance of 220 mm offers moderate off-road aptitude. The car’s design draws heavy inspiration from the Land Rover Defender.

Performance & Powertrain

A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine powers the standard Jetour T2, generating 254 BHP and 390 Nm of torque. Coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the drivetrain pushes the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. Top speed caps at 180 km/h. The AWD system by BorgWarner adapts across seven modes: Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, Eco, and Sport.

A second variant, the T2 i-DM, incorporates hybrid power with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and dual electric motors. Together, this setup produces 375 BHP and 610 Nm of torque. The electric-only range stretches to 139 km, with total range passing 1,000 km, for longer regional drives with fewer stops.

Interior & Features

Inside, a 15.6-inch touchscreen anchors the centre console, driven by a Snapdragon 8155 chip for faster response and app handling. It integrates with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 10.25-inch digital display behind the wheel serves as the instrument cluster. The infotainment system is paired to a 12-speaker Sony audio array.

The car is loaded with features such as ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Charging is wireless. Seat heating and power adjustments are standard on upper trims. Controls for climate and audio are embedded in the touchscreen, which we don’t particularly like; we’d have preferred buttons.

Safety

The Jetour T2 includes Level 2 driver assistance, such as lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot alerts. A unique 540° camera setup helps you manoeuvre the massive SUV. It has ten airbags to cover most of the cabin. There’s no safety rating yet, but feature sets align with regulatory benchmarks for its category.

Pricing & Conclusion

Priced from AED 146,000 in the UAE, the T2 enters a competitive field with cost-conscious buyers in view. A 10-year/1 million km warranty and 3-year/40,000 km service plan come standard. These terms aim to attract buyers in markets where maintenance intervals and reliability rank high, as this car competes with Toyota’s Land Cruisers, cars that enjoy a legendary reputation for reliability.

The T2’s presence in the Middle East brings a fresh competitor into a crowded category, but one that meets core expectations in powertrain, build, and digital features.
