Land Rover could expand the Defender family with a pickup truck. The company could develop the model with Stellantis in the United States. The project would target American buyers. It could also create a new Defender body style for other markets.
Defender Pickup Planned As A New Model

Automotive News reports that the Defender pickup could become JLR’s first product with Stellantis. The partnership would support development and production in the U.S.
JLR does not plan to move current Defender production from Slovakia. Instead, the companies could develop new Defender variants for specific markets. The pickup would reportedly target American customers. The U.S. market has strong demand for premium trucks and lifestyle-focused models.
Stellantis Could Support Development
JLR signed a memorandum of understanding with Stellantis in May. The agreement covers vehicle development and production opportunities in the U.S. The partnership could give JLR access to Stellantis’ manufacturing expertise. It could also provide valuable knowledge about American truck buyers. Stellantis may also contribute to powertrain development. However, both companies have yet to confirm any technical details.
Unibody Platform Could Set It Apart
The Defender pickup could use a unibody platform. That approach would differ from Stellantis’ existing pickup trucks. The Ram 1500 and Jeep Gladiator use body-on-frame construction. Stellantis also builds unibody SUVs, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee. That experience could help JLR develop the new truck. However, the pickup’s size and platform remain unknown. The companies have also revealed no engine or drivetrain details.
Luxury Pickup Could Target A New Segment

A Defender pickup would give Land Rover a new position in the truck market. American brands already offer luxury versions of their large pickups. Ford, Ram and GMC sell premium versions of their respective trucks. Land Rover could take a different approach with the Defender. The truck could combine Defender’s off-road character with a premium cabin. It could also feature advanced technology and strong luxury credentials. The concept could appeal to Middle Eastern buyers, too. The region has strong demand for premium off-road vehicles and lifestyle pickups.
Prices In The Middle East
Land Rover has not confirmed Middle East availability for the proposed pickup. The company has also announced no pricing. If the truck reaches the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar, it could occupy a premium position. Its price could sit above mainstream pickups and compete with luxury-oriented trucks. However, any Middle East pricing remains speculative until Land Rover confirms the model.
Defender Pickup Could Still Be Years Away
The project remains in its early stages. Land Rover has not confirmed the truck’s name, design or specifications. The company has also provided no production timeline. The Stellantis partnership could nevertheless help JLR enter new vehicle segments. If the project moves forward, the Defender pickup could become an important U.S.-focused model. It could also create a new premium off-road pickup option for other markets.
