Lotus Emira To Swap V6 For A More Potent V8

1 min read

Ever since the Emira made its debut in the global car market, it has rocked the ground hard with its raw driving pleasure and elegant looks. Most enthusiastic customers consider the Emira the ultimate budget raw enthusiast sports car. Offering a manual transmission with the V6 option, along with a rear wheel drive system, the Emira quickly became the people’s favourite sports car along side it’s main rival, the Porsche Cayman.

New rumors and news reportedly suggest that Lotus, a Geely-owned company, will swap the Emira’s V6 engine option for a highly more potent V8 engine.

Feasibility of V8 Power

Lotus is now highly committed to offering a higher-powered version of the Emira, CEO Feng Qingfeng told investors on the company’s recent earnings call, stating: “We are currently investigating the feasibility of the V8,”. Hence proved, Lotus is looking to build an Emira V8.

Lotus had intended to phase out the V6 in favour of the Mercedes-supplied four-cylinder unit, but the six-cylinder has been enduringly popular in the US, the world’s largest sports car market, prompting the investigation into fitting a bigger engine. In fact, most sold Emiras have the V6 option due to the fact that it gets the Manual transmission. So the V8 coming to the Emira is likely.

Potential Source for The V8

The most obvious source could obviously be the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from Mercedes-Benz however, it is unlikely that this engine comes paired with a manual transmission, as this engine currently does not have a manual to pair itself with. Apart from the transmission, this V8 could potentially show up in a lower state of tune than usual at around 500 BHP.

What This Means For The Emira

This could potentially mean that the Emira will surely gain more power, but could lose the manual option. Along with this, the Emira could gain more weight. The Emira is currently a highly important vehicle for the Brand and Lotus can not afford mistakes with their highest selling Model.

V8 Emira – Verdict

Is more power justifiable at the cost of the Manual Transmission? That’s now up to the customers. But a higher-powered V8 Emira would surely be a wonderful experience, along with high sales figures as well, but Lotus has yet to confirm the Arrival of the V8 Lotus Emira.
