McLaren is ready to merge with British startup Forseven. McLaren is looking to expand its lineup to beyond what they currently offer. McLaren only offers mid-engined supercars as of today, and now with fresh technology and resources in their hand, McLaren is looking forward to introduce different models other than mid engined supercars. McLaren and Forseven are to integrate under a new group, which will be called as McLaren Group Holdings. The merger was facilitated by the investment company CYVN Holding.
Forseven: A Brief Introduction
Forseven is a British startup company that has been building a team of automotive designers, engineers, and executives towards the launch of a different range of new-age luxury products under a new name. These developments were happening behind the curtains for the past 3 years, which the company calls “operating in stealth mode”. The Forseven name was never intended to be a customer-facing name, meaning it was never meant to be a forerunner and was only meant to be used in the background during development. Hence, this brand name will cease to exist post the merger. Before the McLaren deal, Forseven had intended to go solo in the market as an individual brand but under a different name.

Merger Facilitation By CYVN Holdings
This merger was facilitated by the Abu Dhabi government-backed investment company CYVN Holdings. Forseven was formed as an anchor investment in 2022 and has expanded its automobile collection ever since. The company currently owns Gordon Murray Technologies, which was acquired in 2023, and also has a 20% stake in the Chinese car company Nio. CYVN acquired McLaren in December 2024.

New McLaren Group Holdings Established
The new McLaren Group Holdings will be led by Forseven CEO Nick Collins. Nick Collins was previously a senior engineer at Ford and later had also overseen the Defender and Range Rover projects at JLR. This new group also has a minority, non-controlling stake in the McLaren Formula 1 team, and will also oversee the combined business of McLaren Automotive and Forseven.

What Does This Hold For McLaren?
This merger will enable McLaren to expand its lineup across various categories. This will also allow models that were previously developed under the Forseven brand to now come to life under the McLaren Brand. McLaren will also benefit from the fresh financial support and security, better complete with the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and Bentley. This also includes electrification measures from Nio and GMT’s sophisticated production processes.

The first official details about the new generation McLarens will be disclosed later this year. Sources say that the new models from the company will move up in their price points from the current lineup, making for a much wider portfolio than what they offer today. Interestingly, the models that have been under development under Forseven are not entirely electric, and McLaren’s expansion into other segments will also include high-performance internal combustion engines.
