McLaren has revealed the McL 6GT, a new mid-engine supercar with a six-speed manual gearbox. The car is currently a pre-production prototype, with deliveries planned for 2028. Inspired by Bruce McLaren’s original M6GT road-car project, the 6GT combines modern carbon-fibre construction with a more restrained design.
Six-Speed Manual Transmission Returns
The McL 6GT stands apart from recent McLaren models with its three-pedal layout. The prototype uses a six-speed manual transmission with an exposed shift linkage.
McLaren has not confirmed the production engine. However, the company is expected to use a V8 in the final version, continuing its mid-engine performance formula.
Carbon-Fibre Construction & Mid-Engine Layout
The 6GT uses a carbon-fibre tub and carbon-fibre bodywork. This construction should help keep weight low while providing a strong foundation for the supercar.
The engine sits behind the cabin in a mid-mounted layout. McLaren has not released final weight or performance figures yet.
Subtle Exterior With Active Aerodynamics
The McL 6GT has a more restrained design than many recent McLaren models. The front features low side intakes and horizontal aerodynamic strakes.
A small fixed rear wing sits above the diffuser. Active aerodynamic elements beneath the body also adjust downforce according to driving conditions.
Driver-Focused Manual Cabin
The cabin combines modern materials with traditional performance-car details. Quilted Alcantara covers the seats, doors and sills, while exposed carbon-fibre elements add a technical touch.
The manual shifter takes centre stage between the seats. Its exposed linkage and large bushings give the cabin a mechanical character that suits the three-pedal layout.
Inspired By Bruce McLaren’s M6GT
The 6GT takes its name and design philosophy from the M6GT, a road-car project created by Bruce McLaren in the late 1960s.
The original project aimed to transform the Can-Am racing technology of the era into a road car. The new 6GT pays tribute to that idea while using modern McLaren engineering.
Limited Production Of 500 Units
McLaren plans to build only 500 examples of the 6GT. The limited production will make it one of the company’s most exclusive modern road cars.
The production version will also receive further development before deliveries begin. McLaren has not yet revealed the final specification.
Prices In The Middle East
McLaren expects the McL 6GT to cost around USD 1.5 million when production begins. That could translate to approximately AED 5.5 million to AED 5.7 million in the UAE before additional options and local charges. Prices may vary across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman based on taxes, specifications and customer-selected equipment.

The McL 6GT is currently a pre-production prototype, with customer deliveries planned for 2028. Production will be limited to 500 units.
