Dodge Revives The Copperhead Name
Dodge is preparing a brand-new flagship sports car called the Copperhead, reviving a name first seen on a 1997 concept model. The upcoming two-door performance car is expected to sit at the top of Dodge’s future lineup and lead the return of the SRT performance division.
The new Copperhead was previewed privately during Stellantis Investor Day 2026, where the company showcased several upcoming products from Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Chrysler. Although official images have not yet been released, early details suggest the Copperhead could become Dodge’s most extreme road car since the Viper.
Aggressive Design Inspired By The Charger
The new Dodge Copperhead reportedly features a long, low and highly aggressive body shape. While it appears to share some architecture with the current Dodge Charger, the styling is far more dramatic and performance-focused.
The front end includes multiple vents, large cooling ducts and slim LED headlights integrated into the bodywork. A massive S-duct channels air through the bonnet and over the roofline, while additional vents help cool the engine and brakes. A large rear wing and muscular proportions further highlight the car’s track-inspired design.
V8 Power Expected Under The Bonnet
Dodge has not officially confirmed engine details for the Copperhead. However, visible exhaust tips on the prototype strongly suggest the sports car will use a petrol-powered setup rather than a fully electric powertrain.
Industry expectations point toward a high-performance V8 engine, especially after Stellantis recently brought back the HEMI V8 in the Ram 1500 lineup. Reports also hint that Dodge may combine the engine with hybrid assistance to deliver even higher power figures while meeting stricter emissions standards.
SRT Division Set For A Strong Comeback
The Copperhead will reportedly serve as the halo model for the reborn SRT sub-brand. Dodge also previewed an updated Charger SRT featuring a redesigned front fascia, additional aerodynamic components and a large rear wing inspired by the classic 1969 Charger Daytona.
Together, these upcoming performance models indicate that Dodge plans to return to its traditional muscle-car roots after recent uncertainty surrounding the brand’s future performance lineup.
Aerodynamics Play A Major Role
One of the most striking elements of the Copperhead is its advanced aerodynamic package. The large hood ducts, front brake-cooling vents and oversized rear wing suggest the car is being developed with track performance in mind.
The rear wing reportedly resembles a smaller version of the famous setup used on the Dodge Viper ACR. The prototype also featured a snake-inspired badge, further strengthening comparisons to Dodge’s legendary Viper supercar.
Launch Timeline Still Unclear
Dodge has not confirmed when the Copperhead will make its official debut. Since the company reportedly only displayed an early styling model, the final production version may still be several years away.
Current expectations suggest the Dodge Copperhead could arrive around the 2029 model year. More details regarding the powertrain, platform and production plans are expected to emerge over the next few years as Dodge continues rebuilding its high-performance lineup.
