Mitsubishi has outlined an ambitious product strategy for North America, confirming that a new Pajero is part of its long-term plans. However, the legendary SUV will not arrive as soon as many enthusiasts expected. Instead, the company plans to introduce updated or completely new models every year through 2031, with the Pajero expected to play a major role later in the decade.

Momentum 2030 Drives Mitsubishi’s Future

Mitsubishi recently presented its Momentum 2030 strategy to dealers in the United States and Canada. Under the plan, the company will launch at least one new or refreshed model every year until March 2031. Consequently, Mitsubishi aims to strengthen its presence in key global markets while expanding its SUV and pickup lineup.

Pajero Returns As A Rugged SUV

The new Pajero will first debut in Asia later this year as a full-size body-on-frame SUV. It will share its platform with the Mitsubishi Triton pickup and is expected to compete with established off-road vehicles such as the Toyota Land Cruiser. Moreover, the SUV will feature three rows of seating and approximately 12 inches of ground clearance.

Modern Design Meets Classic Capability

The upcoming Pajero will adopt a bold new appearance with a full-width LED light bar and vertically stacked headlights. In addition, Mitsubishi is expected to replace the traditional side-hinged rear door with a conventional tailgate. As a result, the new design should improve everyday practicality while maintaining the SUV’s rugged identity.

North American Version Planned Later

Although the Pajero will launch in Asia first, Mitsubishi is also evaluating a North American version. There, the SUV is expected to wear the historic Montero nameplate. However, current reports suggest the launch will not happen before 2030, giving the company time to finalize development and market positioning.

More New Models Are On The Way

The Momentum 2030 roadmap includes several additional products. An updated Outlander Trail Edition is expected during 2027 with improved suspension and enhanced all-wheel-drive capability. Meanwhile, redesigned Outlander and Outlander Sport models are scheduled for 2028 with new platforms, larger dimensions, and more rugged styling.

Furthermore, Mitsubishi plans to introduce a midsize pickup in 2029 through its partnership with Nissan. The truck is expected to share its platform with the Nissan Frontier while drawing styling inspiration from the globally successful Mitsubishi Triton.

Prices In The Middle East

Mitsubishi has not announced pricing for the upcoming Pajero. However, based on its expected positioning, industry estimates suggest the SUV could start from approximately AED 220,000 in GCC markets. Higher-spec variants featuring advanced four-wheel-drive systems and premium equipment could exceed AED 300,000 when the model eventually reaches Middle East showrooms.

Middle East Relevance & Market Outlook

The Pajero remains one of Mitsubishi’s most respected nameplates across the Middle East. Therefore, its return is likely to generate significant excitement among buyers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman. Moreover, the combination of body-on-frame construction, three-row practicality, and strong off-road capability makes the new SUV well suited to the region’s diverse driving conditions.

Conclusion

Mitsubishi’s long-awaited Pajero is officially making a comeback, although buyers will need to wait a little longer. The legendary SUV promises modern styling, serious off-road capability, and improved practicality while preserving the qualities that built its reputation. Most importantly, the new Pajero could become one of Mitsubishi’s most significant launches for both the Middle East and global SUV markets.
