It was previously reported that the Nissan GT-R will surely make a comeback in the near future. We now seem to have an answer for that, as a launch timeline (although not exact) has been revealed. Interestingly, even powertrain details have been revealed to give fans a small idea of what Nissan has in store for the next-gen Godzilla.

Dilemma Of Going Fully Electric Or Partially Electric
If reports are to be believed, it has not yet been decided if the next-gen GT-R will be a plug-in hybrid or a conventional hybrid. Heat management and energy density are some of the primary concerns for determining which makes more sense for a model like the GT-R. Though PHEV seems more feasible for the brand, for the requirements of the GT-R, a conventional hybrid seems to make more sense for the brand. But one thing is for sure, the next-gen GT-R will not be a fully electric model, as previously indicated by some reports. The brand says that making the GT-R an electric model will take away the authenticity of the GT-R. Nissan even reportedly built a few prototypes of an electric GT-R.

Expected Powertrain
Nissan is expected to tweak the 3.5 liter twin turbo V6 engine from the Armada for the GT-R, as a Nissan executive mentioned about this engine being emissions compliant for as long as 2032. Power output can absolutely be expected to be more than what it is now, to match the GT-R’s requirements.

Nissan And Acura
Additionally, there is a possibility of the new GT-R being jointly developed with the next gen Acura NSX. Nissan’s new CEO has reportedly been working with Honda’s CEO, despite of the failed merger talks between the brands. There is a high possibility that the next gen GT-R and NSX could be based on the same platform.
