Porsche Confirms End Of The Gas Macan
Porsche has officially confirmed that production of the gas-powered Macan SUV will end during summer 2026. The company revealed the decision during a recent earnings call, with Porsche CFO Jochen Bruckner stating that production will continue at maximum capacity until the final months.
The final gas-powered Porsche Macan is expected to leave the production line in July 2026. This marks the end of one of Porsche’s most successful modern models and signals a major transition toward electrification for the German luxury brand.
Macan Became One Of Porsche’s Biggest Success Stories
The Porsche Macan first arrived in 2013 and quickly became one of the company’s best-selling vehicles worldwide. Positioned below the larger Cayenne, the Macan offered Porsche styling, sporty handling, and premium features at a relatively accessible price point.
Over one million units of the Macan have been produced since launch. In the United States alone, Porsche sold more than 27,000 Macans last year, making it one of the company’s strongest-selling vehicles alongside the Cayenne SUV.
Macan Electric Will Continue After Gas Model Ends
While the gas-powered Macan is being discontinued, the fully electric Porsche Macan Electric will remain in production. Porsche introduced the electric version in 2024 as part of its aggressive push toward EV technology.
However, demand for electric vehicles has not increased as rapidly as many manufacturers originally expected. Despite the Macan Electric gaining attention globally, the majority of Macan sales still come from traditional gasoline-powered models.
Porsche Faces A Gap In Its SUV Lineup
One major challenge for Porsche is that there will not be an immediate gas-powered replacement ready once Macan production ends. That creates a gap in Porsche’s lineup, especially in the compact luxury SUV segment where customer demand remains extremely strong.

New Gas & Hybrid Porsche SUV Planned For 2028
Porsche is already developing a successor to the current gas-powered Macan. The new SUV is expected to arrive sometime in 2028 and will reportedly feature both gasoline and hybrid powertrain options.
The upcoming model is expected to use the Premium Platform Combustion architecture, also known as PPC. This platform currently underpins newer Audi products such as the latest Audi Q5.
While official specifications remain limited, the next-generation SUV will likely continue Porsche’s focus on sporty driving dynamics while offering improved efficiency and updated technology.
Porsche’s EV Strategy Continues To Evolve
Porsche originally expected electric vehicle demand to grow faster during the second half of the decade. However, global EV adoption has slowed in several important markets, causing many luxury brands to reconsider their product strategies.
The company now appears to be balancing both electrification and combustion powertrains rather than shifting completely toward EVs. This explains why Porsche is preparing new hybrid and gasoline-powered models even while expanding its electric lineup.
