Subaru Expands Its EV Lineup Rapidly

Subaru is accelerating its shift toward electrification with the announcement of a brand-new electric SUV. The upcoming model will be officially revealed at the New York International Auto Show 2026, marking another major step in the brand’s evolving EV strategy.
Not long ago, Subaru had no fully electric vehicles in its global lineup. Now, the company is quickly building a diverse EV portfolio, and this new SUV will become a key addition aimed at families and long-distance usability.

Teaser Image Hints At Familiar EV Design Language

Subaru has released a teaser image showing the new SUV driving along an oceanside road during either sunrise or sunset. While most design details remain hidden, a few signature elements are clearly visible.
The SUV will feature Subaru’s distinctive six-pod LED daytime running lights, similar to those seen on models like the Subaru Solterra. It will also include an illuminated front logo and practical roof rails, reinforcing its positioning as a lifestyle-focused electric SUV.

420 HP All-Wheel Drive Powertrain Confirmed

Subaru has confirmed that the new EV SUV will come standard with an all-wheel-drive setup. This strongly indicates a dual-motor configuration, delivering a combined output of 420 HP.
This makes it the most powerful production Subaru ever built, surpassing even performance-focused internal combustion models. The AWD system also aligns with Subaru’s core identity, ensuring strong traction and stability across different terrains.

A Family-Focused Electric SUV

Interestingly, Subaru has emphasized the word “family” multiple times in its announcement. This suggests the new EV could offer more space than current models, potentially becoming the brand’s first three-row electric SUV.
If confirmed, this would position the vehicle as a practical choice for larger households, combining electric efficiency with everyday usability and comfort.

Global Reveal Set For April 1

All remaining details, including the SUV’s official name, interior features, range, and pricing, will be revealed during its global debut.
The unveiling is scheduled for April 1, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET at the New York International Auto Show.
With strong performance, all-wheel drive, and a likely focus on family practicality, this new Subaru EV could become one of the brand’s most important launches in recent years.
