Volkswagen Finally Launches The ID. Polo EV
Volkswagen has officially revealed the all-new ID. Polo is an affordable electric hatchback designed to expand the company’s EV lineup in Europe. The production model closely resembles the ID.2all concept first shown in 2023 and represents Volkswagen’s push toward smaller and more accessible electric vehicles.
The new ID. Polo will serve as the entry-level electric hatchback in Volkswagen’s lineup until an even smaller EV arrives later. Volkswagen is positioning the ID. Polo as the electric equivalent of the long-running Polo hatchback, which has remained popular in global markets for decades.
Compact Dimensions With Modern Styling
The Volkswagen ID. Polo features smooth bodywork, sharp LED lighting, and compact proportions that make it ideal for urban driving. Slim headlights connected by a full-width light bar give the front end a futuristic appearance, while the rear receives matching full-width LED taillights.
The electric hatchback measures 159.6 inches in length, making it significantly smaller than the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, Volkswagen says the MEB+ platform allows for a spacious and practical interior layout.
Up To 208 HP With A GTI Version Coming Soon
All versions of the ID. Polo use a single electric motor driving the front wheels. Buyers can choose from three different power outputs: 114 HP, 133 HP, or 208 HP.
Volkswagen has also confirmed that a performance-focused GTI variant will arrive next year. Inspired by the ID.GTI concept, the sporty electric hatchback is expected to produce 223 HP while maintaining the fun-to-drive character associated with the GTI badge.
Range Figures Reach Up To 282 Miles
The lower-powered 114-HP and 133-HP models use a 37-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack. Volkswagen claims these versions can deliver up to 204 miles of driving range.
The more powerful 208-HP version and the future GTI model receive a larger 52-kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack. According to Volkswagen, these models can travel up to 282 miles on a single charge using the European WLTP testing cycle.
Fast-charging capabilities are also included. The larger battery supports charging speeds of up to 105 kW, while the smaller battery supports up to 90 kW.
Interior Brings Back Physical Controls
Inside, the ID. Polo features a simple and modern cabin with improved usability compared to some previous Volkswagen EVs. A 13-inch touchscreen sits in the center of the dashboard alongside a 10-inch digital instrument cluster.
Importantly, Volkswagen has reintroduced physical climate controls and proper steering-wheel buttons after customer complaints about touch-sensitive controls in earlier models. The cabin also includes cloth trim, ambient lighting, and a cleaner dashboard layout.
Technology & Features Feel Surprisingly Premium
Despite being an affordable EV, the ID. Polo offers several premium features. Available options include wireless smartphone charging, a Harman Kardon audio system, adaptive cruise control, and electronically adjustable front seats with massage functionality.
The hatchback also supports vehicle-to-load capability, allowing owners to power external devices directly from the battery. Additional safety technologies include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, parking sensors, and front cross-traffic alert.
Affordable Pricing Targets European Buyers
Volkswagen says the ID. Polo will launch in Germany with a starting price equivalent to roughly AED 106,000 based on current exchange rates. This pricing positions the model as one of Volkswagen’s most accessible electric vehicles.
The company plans to sell the ID. Polo alongside the gas-powered Polo for the near future. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that the electric hatchback will not be sold in the United States due to its compact size and market positioning.
The ID. Polo Could Become A Major EV Success
