Introduction
Mercedes-Benz has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the 2027 GLC EV, bringing electrification to its best-selling midsize SUV segment. Positioned as a more mainstream EV offering, the GLC EV blends luxury, technology, and impressive range to attract a broader audience stepping into electric mobility.
Design & Platform

The GLC EV is built from the ground up on the new MB.EA platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. While it shares its name with the combustion-engine GLC, the EV has unique sheet metal, an extended wheelbase, and a slightly larger footprint, measuring 190.7 inches (5 inches longer) overall. The new design features an optional illuminated matrix grille composed of 942 backlit dots for a bold visual statement and innovative airflow management.
Powertrain & Performance
The GLC EV will be offered in two trims: the GLC400 4Matic and the GLC300+. The GLC400 4Matic features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 483 horsepower, enabling a 0-60 MPH time of 4.4 seconds. The GLC300+ is rear-wheel drive, powered by a single motor with 369 horsepower, achieving 0-60 MPH in 5.9 seconds. Both models employ a two-speed transmission on the rear motor to aid acceleration and efficiency.
Battery, Range, & Charging

Central to the vehicle is a 94.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, supported by an 800-volt electrical system. The GLC400 4Matic boasts an estimated WLTP range of up to 713 KM (approximately 443 miles), while real-world EPA estimates are expected to be around 376 miles. Thanks to the ultra-fast charging capability of up to 330 kW, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes, with a quick 10-minute charge providing up to 160 miles of range.
Interior & Technology

The GLC EV interior is highlighted by Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX Hyperscreen, stretching 39.1 inches from A-pillar to A-pillar, making it the largest continuous display offered by Mercedes. It offers extensive digital features, including integration with Microsoft Teams for video calls with an in-car camera (video feeds disabled while driving to comply with laws). Customers declining the Hyperscreen option still receive a digital instrument cluster alongside centre touchscreen displays. The cabin space offers generous cargo capacity, including a front trunk (“frunk”) with 4.5 cubic feet and 61.4 cubic feet behind folding rear seats.
Availability & Pricing
The first variant to debut will be the GLC400 4Matic arriving in late 2026, followed by the GLC300+ in early 2027. Pricing details are yet to be announced, but are expected to position the GLC EV competitively against rivals like the BMW iX3, another electric SUV with a similar powertrain and range.
Verdict

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV marks a significant step toward mainstream electric luxury SUVs. With strong powertrains, impressive range, ultra-fast charging, and futuristic technology, the GLC EV combines the brand’s luxury heritage with next-generation sustainable mobility. This mid-sized EV SUV is poised to attract both traditional combustion buyers looking to transition and first-time EV customers seeking a premium but approachable electric SUV.
